We built Thesis because the tools academics actually use for long-form writing were never built for academics. [TKTK — final narrative pending.]

Why we built it

[TKTK — short paragraph on the gap: word processors don't understand citations, reference managers don't understand writing, and the bridge between them has historically been a stack of fragile plugins. Thesis closes the gap natively on Apple platforms.]

What's intentionally out of scope

[TKTK — short paragraph on what Thesis is not: not a reference manager (Zotero is great, use it), not a collaborative cloud doc (Google Docs exists), not a LaTeX replacement for equations-first work. Thesis is the writing surface that respects citations as first-class.]

The studio

Thesis is made by Toba LLC, an independent software studio. No VCs, no growth team, no engagement metrics — just careful work on tools we want to use ourselves.
